AFSH Your Dollars at Work

In 2009, the AFSH awarded Christopher J. Got, MD a $16,000 Basic Science Grant for his project on, “Utilization of Computed Tomography to Evaluate the Mechanics of the First CMC Joint during Dynamic Loading.”  This project was under the mentorship of Arnold-Peter C. Weiss, MD and Joseph J. Crisco, PhD.  This grant provided the seed funding necessary to develop the project which led to a 2011-2016 National Institutes of Health R01 grant of $3,222,000 on Thumb CMC Biomechanics and Early OA Progression.  Dr. Weiss recently notified the ASSH that his lab with Dr. Crisco at Brown/Rhode Island Hospital along with the lab of Amy L. Ladd, MD at Stanford (a multi-center project), had just received a continuation grant from the NIH which received a perfect 1.0 score!  The 2016 NIH R01 grant was awarded $3,851,270 to continue the project.  Dr. Weiss wrote, “As is rather obvious, the AFSH/ASSH research grant efforts can have profound benefit.”
