USBJi Career Development Program for Young Investigators Now Accepting Applications
October 5, 2016

The United States Bone and Joint Initiative (USBJI) and Bone and Joint Canada are dedicated to increasing research of musculoskeletal diseases.  The USBJI has developed a grant mentoring program to provide early-career investigators an opportunity to work with experienced researchers in our field to assist them in securing funding and other survival skills required for pursuing an academic career.  ASSH sponsorship to participate is available.

2016 Hentz Scholarship and Riordan Awards Announced
September 19, 2016

The Adrian E. Flatt Residents and Fellows Committee, on behalf of the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand, the Vincent R. Hentz Fund, and the Riordan Hand Society are excited to announce this year's special named travel scholarships to attend the Flatt Residents and Fellows Conference and the ASSH Annual Meeting in Austin.  Each winner will receive a $1,500 stipend to cover registration, airfare and housing.

Innovation in Education Grant Update at the Tech Lab in Austin

On Friday, September 30, 2016 Benjamin Sandberg, MD will provide an update on his education grant, "Utilization of a Smart Phone Application for Tracking Hand Surgery Milestones" in the Tech Lab at the ASSH Annual Meeting in Austin, TX.

Urgent Call for Funding: Proposed Touching Hands Project Mission to Honduras

The ASSH Touching Hands Project (THP) team performed 122 procedures during our March 2016 trip to Honduras. We are incredibly proud of that work, but a follow-up trip is crucial. THP is the only group that has brought upper extremity outreach to Ruth Paz Hospital, and there are no physicians in the area trained to administer the follow up care that these patients desperately need. & The people of Honduras suffer from upper extremity injuries that can result from high amounts of violence in their country. In addition, Honduras has no hand surgeons and is lacking a stable infrastructure. It is a poor country that needs assistance from our surgeons.

2015 Education Programs Highlights 
Learn more about the accomplishments of the Hand Foundation and how your dollars were put to work last year.  View the 2015 AFSH Annual Report.

The “Teaching Hands” education fund was designed to support educational initiatives serving ASSH members, residents, and fellows.  This fund will help finance new projects as well as expand on existing educational programs.  Education dollars are used to support the Innovation in Education grants program, Annual Meeting Traveling Scholarships, A. Lee Osterman Excellence in Education award, and more.
