Call for 2018 Basic Science and Clinical Research Grants

The 2018 Call for Basic Science and Clinical Research grants is now open!  All topics related to hand and upper extremity will be considered.  New - designated funding is available this year for projects on peripheral nerve.  Projects within this area will receive special attention by the Research Management Committee.  Apply for a basic or clinical research grant by April 2, 2018 to be considered.

Make an IRA Charitable Contribution to the Hand Foundation

The IRA Charitable Rollover provision of the PATH Act allows individuals 70 ½ and older to make tax-free contributions of up to $100,000 from their Traditional IRAs directly to qualified charities without recognizing the assets transferred as taxable income.  The IRA Charitable Rollover is the perfect tool to use to support any number of the Hand Foundation's unrestricted or designated funds.

We are fortunate to have had Dr. John Bednar as our Foundation President for these last 4 years.   John produced extraordinarily good results for the Foundation.  John has led by exemplary example, been mission driven and strategic in his approach to the Foundation.  Last year the Foundation, for the first time ever, was able to award over $1,000,000.00 in grants for hand surgery education, research, and outreach! 


2017-2018 International Hand Surgery Fellowship Recipients Announced!

Launched earlier this year, the International Hand Surgery Fellowship (IHSF) offers a unique opportunity for U.S.. hand surgeons in the early phase of their training to participate in a visiting fellowship abroad, either in China or India, over a three-month period.  We are happy to announce our inaugural 2017-2018 International Fellowship class.
2017 Hentz Scholarship and Riordan Awards Announced

The Adrian E. Flatt Residents and Fellows Committee, on behalf of the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand, the Vincent R. Hentz Fund, and the Riordan Hand Society are excited to announce this year's special travel scholarships to attend the Flatt Residents and Fellows Conference and the ASSH Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

US Bone and Joint Initiative Young Investigators Grant Writing Workshop Report

The ASSH is proud to have sponsored one of its young members, Dr. Christopher Dy, from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine for the USBJI Young Investigators Initiative (USBJI Yii) grant writing workshop. The workshop took place over May 19-21, 2017 in Rosemont, IL, and is an opportunity for early career investigators to develop the skills for writing competitive grants to funding agencies, including the NIH and CIHR. The Fall Session workshop will take place November 10-12, 2017, in Toronto, Canada. To be considered for ASSH sponsorship, submit your c.v. and letter of interest to [email protected] by June 15, 2017.
