The Julian M. Bruner Award for Outstanding Poster was was created in 2001 by Mrs. Winifred Bruner in memory of her husband through a grant to the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand.  The ASSH Scientific Displays Committee is responsible for reviewing all scientific posters and selecting the winner of the Bruner Award.  The recipient receives a $1,000 award and plaque honoring their achievement.  The winner is also invited to present their poster at a future annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

 

About Julian M. Bruner

Julian M. Bruner, MD (1900-1997) passed away on June 20, 1997.  He was 96. A WWII veteran, Dr. Bruner developed the Bruner table for hand surgery, binoculars for surgical use, and the procedure known as the Bruner zigzag incision, for which he was elected to the Royal College of Surgeons in 1973.  Dr. Bruner was also an ASSH Past President, 1959-1960.  The Hand Foundation is honored to memorialize Dr. Bruner with the Bruner Award for Outstanding Poster.
