Domestic Missions

About Domestic Missions

The Touching Hands Project is dedicated to expanding our reach right here at home. Our U.S. missions, called "Hand Day", take place at the facilities of hand surgeon members of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. During these one-day missions, the medical staff provides free hand surgery for patients in their community who do not have access to hand care. These patients need our help for a variety of medical conditions that require surgery to be able to return to work and support their families.

An entire Hand Day can be funded for only $5,000, which covers the cost of necessary medical supplies and food for the volunteer staff. At such a small cost, this means that your donation, large or small, can make a substantial impact.

We hosted our first domestic mission in 2016 at Georgia Hand Shoulder and Elbow in Atlanta. Since then, we've held Hand Day in four different cities:

In 2017, THP held Hand Day in four different cities: Nashville, Atlanta, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. Help us to spread Hand Day across even more cities in the coming years by supporting THP today.

Host a Hand Day

THP Hand Days typically take place on a Saturday. Your facility will recruit patients and schedule these patients. The Hand Day will be run by you and your staff members who are willing to volunteer their time. THP will provide you with funding for medical supplies, food for your volunteers, and other miscellaneous costs.
