While some musicians seek the spotlight for personal fortune and fame, members of the Sagittal Band use their skills to raise funds for charities and share in the camaraderie of musicianship.
The band primarily consists of orthopedic hand surgeons. The group has played a charity show in Seattle in 2007 and performed a benefit concert at the House of Blues in Chicago for the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand’s (AFSH) Future in Hand Campaign last year. This September, the band will play another benefit concert for the foundation during the annual American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) meeting in San Francisco.
The Sagittal Band includes Matthew Kennedy (bass guitar), Aaron C. Smith, senior director of extremities marketing for Wright Medical Technology (vocals, guitar), and orthopedic hand surgeons Mark E. Baratz, MD, (vocals and harmonica), David C. Ring, MD, (guitar), Christopher H. Allan, MD, (guitar), Maximillian Soong, MD, (drums) and Allison J. MacLennan, MD, (vocals).
