1st Annual Hand Surgery Quiz Bowl
From: 10:00 AM To: 11:00 AM
Room 302, Hynes Convention Center

The first annual Hand Surgery Quiz Bowl will pit the best and brightest hand surgery resident and fellow trainees from programs across the country against one another to tackle tough questions regarding clinical concepts and current evidence regarding upper extremity conditions.  This interactive, lively session will be the semi-final and final rounds of the resident and fellow hand surgery tournament in which institutions across the United States compete regarding knowledge of upper extremity conditions and their management. The preliminary rounds will be held during the 36th Adrian E. Flatt Annual Residents and Fellows Conference.

Teams will be comprised of residents and fellows and will be “coached” by a hand faculty member at their institution. The guidelines include:

  • Teams are limited to 3 individuals (not including the coach)
  • Each team must include at least one, but no more than two, current hand surgery fellow from an ACGME-approved institution (defined as an individual currently in training during the 2018-2019 academic year)
  • Coaches should be an ASSH Candidate or Active member

Alternates may be listed in the event that a team member is not able to attend all competition rounds. Team colors, costumes, cheers, and mascots are allowed (and encouraged!) - Prizes will be awarded to the victors!

The competition will follow a timed and moderated quiz-bowl format.  The topics covered in the competition will include clinical cases as well as didactic information from all aspects of upper extremity surgery, including fracture management, soft tissue reconstruction, nerve reconstruction, tendon repair, and the treatment of degenerative joint conditions.

Interested teams should submit their team roster, coaches name, team name, and program(s) represented by July 13th, 2018. For additional questions, please email Katherine Ort ([email protected]).
