Total Distal Radio-Ulnar Joint Replacement

The Scheker Distal Radio-Ulnar Joint prosthesis is the only prosthesis that replaces all of the functions of the distal radio-ulnar joint, including the sigmoid notch, the ulnar head and the function of the triangular fibro cartilage. This workshop is intended to teach the hand surgeon the technique for application of the Scheker Distal Radio Ulnar Joint prosthesis after Darrach, Sauve-Kapandji, Watson matched resection and Bowers hemi-resection arthroplasty procedures, and primary replacement of the ulna head secondary to arthritis. This workshop will show the pearls and pitfalls possible with this type of replacement.

Osteoarthritis of the CMC joint can be treated in a number of ways. The faculty will present an algorithmic approach for treating the osteoarthritic joint with various techniques and implant options at different stages of the disease continuum. The workshop will focus on proper patient selection and different strategies for use of the Artelon resurfacing technologies to achieve optimal results in patients at varying stages of disease progression. Special emphasis will be given to the use of minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques to treat these conditions.

Scaphoid Fixation and Nonunions—New Solutions to Old Problems

Acute fractures of the scaphoid continue to be a frustrating source of missed diagnosis, progression to nonunion, prolonged disability time and degenerative change in a young and active population. Timely diagnosis and cast treatment of stable fractures can lead to excellent healing rates but require many months of immobilization and a persistent but low rate of nonunion. Nonunions require at least twice the time to heal as acute fractures. Minimally invasive techniques have been recently demonstrated to reduce complications and speed recovery of hand function for acute fractures and selected scaphoid nonunions.

Case presentations will examine patient outcomes from the use of this device on both intra and extra-articular distal radius fractures. Sawbones participation by attendees to follow.
