The American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) offers five types of membership.
Active Membership - Available to hand surgeons who have passed the CAQSH (Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand) or SOTH (Surgery of the Hand) as administered by the appropriate Specialty Board (ABOS, ABPS or ABS).
2011 ASSH Active Membership applications are now available - submission deadline is February 7, 2011.
Candidate Membership - Open to surgeons who are within three (3) years of completing an ACGME -accredited residency in orthopaedic, plastic or general surgery, or who have been selected for, engaged in or completed an ACGME-accredited twelve (12) month fellowship in hand surgery, or are in practice up to 5 years post fellowship.
Candidate applications processed quarterly - submission deadlines January 1st, April 1st, July 1st or October 1st.
International Membership - Recognizes hand surgeons residing outside of the United States who have been in active practice in their specialty for a minimum of five (5) years.
2011 ASSH International Membership applications are now available - submission deadline is February 7, 2011.
Supporting Membership - Offers membership for non-surgeons who have contributed to the understanding and/or treatment of disorders of the upper limbs and who support the programs of the Society. 2010 application submission deadline was February 1, 2010.
2011 ASSH Supporting Membership applications are now available - submission deadline is February 7, 2011.
Affiliate Membership - Available to fully licensed allied healthcare professionals (i.e., hand therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse). Applications processed quarterly - submission deadlines January 1st, April 1st, July 1st or October 1st.
