The American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) offers five types of membership.
2013 ASSH Active Membership application submission deadline was February 4, 2013.
2014 applications should be available in August 2013.
Open to surgeons who are within three (3) years of completing an
ACGME -accredited residency in orthopaedic, plastic or general surgery, or who have been selected for, engaged in or completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in hand surgery, or are in practice up to 5 years post fellowship.
Candidate applications are processed quarterly - submission deadlines are January 1st, April 1st, July 1st or October 1st.
Recognizes hand surgeons residing outside of the United States who have been in active practice in their specialty for a minimum of five (5) years.
2013 ASSH International Membership application deadline was April 1, 2013.
2014 applications should be available in August 2013.
Supporting Membership
Offers membership for non-surgeons who have contributed to the understanding and/or treatment of disorders of the upper limbs and who support the programs of the Society.

2014 applications should be available in August 2013.
Available to fully licensed allied healthcare professionals (i.e., hand therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse).
Affiliate applications are processed quarterly - submission deadlines are January 1st, April 1st, July 1st or October 1st.
All sponsors for 2013 ASSH membership applications must be Active members in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand – elected in 2009 or earlier - unless otherwise detailed in specific application instructions.

Sponsorship letters can be submitted electronically, as long as they meet the criteria below.
1. Sponsor letter must include the following information:
a. Length of time sponsor has known the applicant
b. Knowledge of the applicant's present practice
c. Statement of unequivocal support on behalf of the applicant
2. Letter must be submitted on sponsor's letterhead.
3. Letters must be signed by sponsor.
