Volunteer's Note
Council created the Image Library Task Force in May of 2011 with the following goals:
- Devise and implement a plan for populating the library with cases and images.
- Determine how to increase the visibility of the image library.
- Determine how to increase member traffic to the web site.
- Determine how to improve the educational value of the library.
The Image Library was started in September 2010, but after one year only 38 images had been uploaded. There was very little activity despite the library providing a great member benefit. Members were having difficulty uploading images because the initial platform was not as user friendly as expected and maintenance of the web-site was challenging.
Task Force Members include:
| Jim Chang, MD |
Jonathan Isaacs, MD |
| Bobby Chhabra, MD |
Scott Kozin, MD |
| Charles Goldfarb, MD |
Dave Ring, MD |
| Michael Hausman, MD |
Dan Zlotolow, MD |
The task force focused on improving the image library format, the organization of the library, and the easier uploading of images. The library is now organized in the same format as the new ASSH textbook for a more logical way to categorize and search for images. The Berger/Weiss textbook images (property of ASSH) were reviewed and categorized, and approximately 1000 images were uploaded to populate the web-site.
The next step includes having authors for the upcoming ASSH textbook upload photos of their chapter. This will add up to 800 more images to the library.
We are working on having Online Consultation Cases and interesting cases uploaded to the image library on a monthly basis to make this resource even more of an educational benefit for our members.
I would like to thank the members of the task force and our ASSH staff who spent countless hours on this project.
Bobby Chhabra, MD
Chair, Image Library Task Force
One of immediate past President W. P. Andrew Lee’s goals was to make ASSH more inclusive and engaging for member involvement. In order to make the nominating process – and the selection of ASSH leadership – more open and transparent, the Council has adopted changes to the Nominating Committee composition and deliberation process. The Nominating Committee will expand from five to seven members. At the 2012 Members Business Meeting Active members were nominated from the floor to serve on the Nominating Committee in 2013 to be chaired by Dr. Lee.
Based on your vote, we are pleased to welcome John G. Seiler, MD and David Zelouf, MD to the 2012-2013 Nominating Committee. We are excited about their involvement, and are confident that their presence on the Nominating Committee will have a positive impact on the future of our Society.
Dr. Seiler is a partner at Georgia Hand, Shoulder and Elbow, PC in Atlanta, Georgia, a private practice with an academic affiliation to the Emory Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Highlights of ASSH involvement include: Residents and Fellows Program Chairman, Annual Meeting Program Chairman, and Maintenance of Certification Committee Chairman. |
Dr. Zelouf is a partner at the Philadelphia Hand Center, a part of the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Highlights of ASSH involvement include: Self- Assessment Exam Committee, and the Annual Meeting Program Committee. |

JHS Updates Reference Style
AMA reference formatting is here!
The Journal of Hand Surgery now requests that authors format their references according to the
American Medical Association’s Manual of Style: the official style of JAMA and a style that many citation management programs recognize. This change was approved by the Editorial Board to help make the JHS more author-friendly.
