Dan Thought You Would Like to Know
The Government Affairs Committee recently returned from the National Orthopedic Leadership Conference in Washington DC. Dr. Bruce Leslie and the other members of his committee took time away from their practices to join the AAOS to educate members of Congress and the Senate regarding issues of importance to our members. It might seem trite but the saying that “all politics is local” is really true. In an effort to facilitate our members’ communication with their elected officials, we have updated our website to permit easy access to all members of Congress and the Senate. I would suggest you take advantage of this. We are all very busy but in this environment letting your Congressman/Senator know what you think about healthcare reform is more important than ever.
Please be vocal!

2011 Master Skills Series Course: Arthroplasties of the Hand, Wrist and Elbow
Orthopaedic Learning Center - Rosemont, Illinois
Program Co-Chairs: Mark S. Cohen, MD & Scott H. Kozin, MD
November 4-5, 2011
Participants will enjoy hands-on learning in an arthroplasty lab covering the hand, wrist, and elbow. This Master Skills program offers a unique course format that focuses on the ultimate lab experience. Each of the six scheduled labs allows attendees to choose from the leading manufacturers to practice surgical skills with guidance from hand and upper extremity experts. Particular emphasis will be placed on operative pearls relative to each implant. There will be no formal didactic lectures. Instead, case study leaders will moderate case reviews and facilitate discussion to highlight the pearls and pitfalls of hand, wrist, and elbow arthroplasty. A low participant to faculty ratio means better facilitation, interaction, communication, and learning. This is one lab program you do not want to miss! Learn more about this program.
The ASSH designates this live activity for a maximum of 12.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes – from the American College of Surgeons
As our nation grapples with how to sustain its commitment to its citizens with regard to the delivery of high-quality health care, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) wants the President, Congress, health care leaders and the public to know that they can find common ground. The ACS has proven ways to improve care and reduce costs, and they have highlighted their approach in a two-minute video.
The ACS will announce their Inspiring Quality program in a few weeks. You can learn more about the Inspiring Quality program on the ACS website, and by reading the “Looking Forward” column in their monthly newsletter, The Bulletin.
AMA Introduces Its First-Ever Physician App; Launches App Challenge – from the AMA
On March 29, 2011 the AMA introduced its first-ever app designed specifically for physicians that allows them to quickly find CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) billing codes. The app is now available for free through the iTunes store. It also launched the 2011 AMA App Challenge to find the next great medical app idea.
The AMA's new CPT quick reference app helps physicians determine the appropriate E&M code for billing quickly, easily and accurately, said AMA Board Secretary Steven J. Stack, M.D. "To find the next great medical app idea we are going right to the source by inviting physicians, residents and medical students to participate in the first-ever AMA App Challenge."
