Did you know... Through the gracious generosity of Charles Eaton, MD, ASSH is moving the content from Eaton-hand (www.eatonhand.com) to the Hand Society’s website?  We have now copied and integrated all the anatomy content from the Eaton-hand website to the Hand Society’s site.  You can begin to see and use that content here. Please note that while the landing page is not new, the anatomy content on the left hand navigation comes from Dr. Eaton.  ASSH is grateful to Dr. Eaton for his gift of intellectual property and for his help in advising staff on how best to integrate his content into our website.

Healthcare Reform News

How Will Federal Health System Reform Impact You? - From AMA

On March 23rd, President Obama signed legislation into law that will no doubt change the state of healthcare in our country.   From immediate increased Medicare payments for physicians to employer requirements to offer coverage to employees, hand surgeons across the country will soon be experiencing real changes.   The AMA lent its support to the legislation, although they expressed opposition to several provisions and asked for a timely corrections bill to be passed.  They continue to urge Congress to repeal the scheduled 21% payment cut being considered in separate legislation.   Visit the AMA website to learn more about how the system reform will affect you.

Healthcare Job Growth Slowing - From AMA

Job growth in the health care industry appears to be slowing, according to government statistics and a recent survey of help-wanted ads.

Industry representatives suggest that possible Medicaid and Medicare cuts, as well as the unknown future of health system reform, have made it difficult for hospitals and other health care institutions to create staffing plans and carry out hiring.

"Hospitals are one of the most stable sources of jobs in our economy today ... but it's going to be tougher and tougher for hospitals to increase the number of jobs," said Sean Prados, executive vice president of the Louisiana Hospital Assn.

Only 900 new jobs were added in physician offices in February, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics monthly report on employment released March 5. Hospital payrolls added 1,300 people. Read the full article about the slowing job growth on the AMA website.
