I am an ASSH Member – do I have a complimentary subscription to the Journal of Hand Surgery (JHS)?

Yes, if you belong to one of the following ASSH membership categories:

Active Members (AC)
Lifetime Members – dues paying (LM)
Senior/Retired Members – dues paying (RM)
International Members – dues paying (IM)
Candidate Members – ALL (CM, CF, CR)
Affiliate Members – with Journal (AFFJ)
Supporting Members (SU)
Senior/Retired Supporting Members – dues paying (SUM)

How can I check my ASSH membership category? 

Sign in with your username and password in the Member Center, look in the left hand toolbar > My ProfileRATE = Member Type under Membership Status.

I am a NEW ASSH Member - when does my JHS subscription begin?

Print subscriptions for New Active, International and Supporting Members begin with January 1 of the year after election.  (i.e. - new 2010 Active Members JHS subscription will begin with January 2011). Online access is activated once applicants have been notified of acceptance.

ASSH Candidate and Affiliate Member’s JHS subscriptions begin with the month of acceptance – January, April, July or October.

What if I am a NEW ASSH Member but I already have a personal subscription to the JHS?

Once your ASSH complimentary subscription to the JHS is activated any current personal subscription to the JHS you may have will be cancelled and refunded for any remainder due.

I am a current ASSH Candidate Member applying for ASSH Active Membership.  How will my JHS subscription be effected?

If you are a current ASSH Candidate Member (have paid your current years Candidate membership dues; i.e. - 2011 paid ASSH Candidate Member applying for 2011 ASSH Active Membership) and are currently applying for ASSH Active Membership, then your subscription for the JHS will continue uninterrupted as long as your Active membership application is approved.

What if I am receiving duplicate copies of the JHS?

Save the mailing address labels from both copies of the JHS.  Fax copies of the mailing labels to Jeanne Bloesch – Senior Membership Coordinator at: (847) 384-1435.

I received an invoice for the JHS from Elsevier. Should I pay it?

No.  ASSH Members should NOT receive billing for the US edition of the JHS directly from the publisher. 

If you receive an invoice for the US edition of the Journal of Hand Surgery please DO NOT PAY the invoice. Fax the invoice to Jeanne Bloesch – Senior Membership Coordinator at (847) 384-1435.

Do ASSH Members also get complimentary subscriptions to the European Volume of the JHS?

No.  ASSH Members do receive a 50% discount on a personal subscription to the European Volume of the JHS.

How do I get a subscription to the European Volume of the JHS?

With regards to the price for ASSH members, these have been set as follows:

ASSH Members Rate - $246
NonMember US Rate - $492

The subscription includes print and online access.

Each Volume comprises 9 Issue per year (January/February/March/May/June/July/September/October and November).

Members should advise customer services that they are ASSH members and the 50% discount will be applied to their order.

Address Changes

What if I have not been receiving my print copy of the JHS?

Check the Member Center > My Profile to verify your Membership category and the address for your Journal mailing.

ASSH members with complimentary subscriptions to the JHS should contact Jeanne Bloesch – Senior Membership Coordinator at the ASSH Central Office 847/384-8300 or membership@assh.org.  

ASSH staff will verify that we have the correct information for your Journal Mailing address and replacement issues will be ordered.

If my mailing address changes do I have to contact Elsevier, the JHS publisher?

No.  The ASSH Central Office maintains the JHS mailing addresses for ASSH members receiving complimentary subscriptions to the JHS. 

If there is a change in your mailing address please notify the ASSH by calling (847) 384-8300 or email membership@assh.org.

Can I update my Journal mailing address online?

Yes.  Sign in with your username/password.  In the Member Center > My Profile > EDIT (button at bottom of page).  Please follow the directions carefully to update ALL listed addresses.

Online Access

If I have a complimentary subscription to the JHS as one of my ASSH member benefits, do I also have online access to the JHS?

Yes.  Sign in with your username and password on the ASSH website.  From the Member Center  > click the Journal of Hand Surgery icon on the right. 

You will automatically be directed to the JHS website (www.jhandsurg.org) and have full access to articles and outlines.*

*When you click through, you are leaving the ASSH website.

Do I need to register or sign-in on the JHS website to access articles? 

No.  When you enter via the link from the ASSH Member Center,  you do NOT need to register or sign in on the JHS website to read an article. 

However, in order to claim CME for articles or save your article search results for future reference, a username and password (registration) for www.jhandsurg.org is required.

Why should I register or login on the JHS online?

1. To claim CME credits from Journal articles
2. To save your search results for later reference

How do I register on the JHS website?

Sign in with your username and password in the ASSH Member Center > click through the Journal of Hand Surgery icon on the right.  This will open an new window to the JHS website (www.jhandsurg.org). 

Begin the registration process (top right of page) on the JHS site to create your username and password.**  If you already have  an existing account on the Elsevier website, you do not need to create a new registration. 

**It is strongly recommended to set up the same logon information for the JHS website as the logon information used for the ASSH website.

Once you have registered on the JHS website you can start from the JHS website www.jhandsurg.org directly and sign in with the information you set up for your JHS account.

Why aren't my ASSH account and my JHS account the same?

JHS online is a separate system and separate website from the ASSH website.
