Presidential Update

After our recent Council meeting in Chicago, May 16-17, it became clear that the Hand Society is advancing in every way.  Our technology-driven projects are blooming, our local and international partnerships are flourishing, and we continue to enhance our educational offerings.  Council members conducted rich discussions and asked all the right questions during our two-day session.  Here is a brief overview of what you can expect in the near future.
Presidential Update
January 18, 2014
As we kick off 2014, I am excited to say that this will be a year of substantial achievements within the Hand Society.  ASSH will roll with the trend of online education as we navigate the first iteration of the new Hand-e, considerably and dynamically add to Hand-e content, launch the new www.assh.org, offer more digital Annual Meeting content than ever before, conduct our first Touching Hands mission, and more.

As I begin my term as the 68th President of ASSH, I inherit the leadership mantle during a very exciting time. First, we should all congratulate and thank Ed Akelman, MD for his leadership, stewardship, and drive toward redefining our educational mission using technology.

The ASSH Council conducted a very exciting and productive meeting for three days in December. We were proud to hold the meeting at our brand new ASSH offices in Chicago for the very first time. As you all know, the December Council meeting includes our Young Leaders group. With the help of the 2012 Young Leaders, the Council made some very important decisions that I feel will benefit our members greatly.

Presidential Update 07/12
July 21, 2012
One of my Presidential themes this year is inclusion, and we have strived to provide our members with more opportunities to be included in all aspects of the Hand Society.  In addition to enhancing the Council Director application and eliminating any bias toward academics, the Identity Task Force, led by Steve Glickel, MD, has taken an additional step toward promoting transparency and openness in leadership selection.  I am pleased to announce that for the first time in ASSH history, we will open two positions on the Nominating Committee for nomination and election by you, our members.
