Chase Library Artifact of the Month: 1947 Annual Meeting Program

Chase Library

This two page program describes the activities of the second Annual Meeting of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, held in 1947, just one year after its founding in 1946.  Held in Chicago, the meeting featured seven talks, a presentation of cases, one symposium and a Presidential Address by Sterling Bunnell.  For the first 41 years, the Annual Meeting was held in conjunction with that of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, with the first independent ASSH Annual Meeting occuring in 1987 in San Antonio.

Since those humble beginnings, the Annual Meeting has grown to meet the diverse needs and interests of our members.  To learn more about the history of the ASSH Annual Meeting, visit the Hands Across Time exhibit at the Chase Library website, which was originally created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASSH in 1996.
