Maintenance of Certification Update

Volunteer Note

Peter M. Murray, MD

A very important piece of the ABMS standard for recertification is the secure examination.  For those who are already ABOS Hand Subspecialty Certified and are applying for recertification, the examination will no longer contain 80 general questions on orthopaedic surgery and will be composed of 175 hand surgery questions.  This examination will be the same examination whether you are approaching recertification through the ABOS, ABPS or the ABS.

ABOS Hand Subspecialty Certified diplomates will now be able to recertify for the Hand Certification and the General Orthopedic Certification through one written examination.  Alternatively, starting in 2015, ABOS diplomates are able to recertify through an oral examination based on their respective case lists.
