Transportation included - All tours leave from the Taylor Street entrance of the Hilton San Francisco
A short ferryboat ride from Pier 33 delivers you to Alcatraz, the infamous former federal prison, home to the likes of Al Capone, Machine Gun Kelly and Robert “The Birdman” Stroud, the subject of many books and a Hollywood favorite.
Discover some of the prison’s true stories. The National Park Service presents a captioned orientation video with historical footage, self-guided walks, exhibits and interpretive talks on topics such as “Famous Escapes.” Also featured is an amazing, award-winning audio tour in the prison Cell House with actual interviews of former guards and inmates.
Only one and a quarter mile from the sights and sounds of one of the world’s most beautiful cities, Alcatraz features some of the most spectacular views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. From lighthouse to prison, the legendary island has acquired a rich history that makes it San Francisco’s most popular tourist attraction!
Note: This tour involves considerable walking and some negotiation of small steep hills and steps.
Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
