Description

This Precourse is designed to review common congenital/perinatal conditions affecting the hand and upper extremities.  Session 1 will review 3 common conditions for pediatric hand practices: arthrogryposis, cerebral palsy and neonatal brachial plexus palsy, followed by a comprehensive discussion on the assessment of the child, surgical indications and a review of selected surgical procedures.  Session 2 will focus on specific congenital conditions of the hand, emphasizing current practice and surgical options in 2013.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Understand key treatment considerations for arthrogryposis in 2013.
  • Understand key treatment considerations for birth brachial plexus palsy in 2013.
  • Understand key treatment considerations for cerebral palsy in 2013.
  • Understand the presentation of key congenital hand anomalies.
  • Understand treatment options for key congenital hand anomalies.
