En route to the Botanic Gardens, guests drive through Chicago‘s North Shore —including Chicago neighborhoods Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Uptown, Edgewater and Rogers Park and the prestigious suburbs Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka and Glencoe. Hometowns of actors Bill Murray, Ann Margaret, Charlton Heston, Rock Hudson, Bruce Dern, John and Joan Cusack and others. These suburbs were featured in 1980s teen comedies such as The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sixteen Candles as well as other films including, Home Alone, and Ordinary People.
The North Shore is also home to the spectacular Baha‘i Temple, premier educational institutions such as Loyola and Northwestern Universities, all of which we will see, and the pioneering Ravinia Festival. The string of upscale suburbs features some of the most beautiful houses in the country, ranging in style from Victorian-Era Queen Anne to early 21st century ―McMansions with buildings designed by architects such as Minoru Yamasaki and Frank Lloyd Wright.
The Chicago Botanical Gardens are located only 25 miles north of Chicago, and is home to 385 acres of vibrant specialty gardens, tranquil lakes, native woodlands and prairies. The Garden is considered to have the best display of gardens in the Upper Midwest and features glorious foliage year-round.
On the 45-minute Grand Tram Tour, your guests will observe breathtaking views of the Japanese Garden, McDonald Woods, and the Prairie. After the tram tour guests are free to explore the beauty within select gardens at their leisure. Choose your favorite gardens or let your docent choose ―highlights of the garden to share with you. Walk and tour the Gardens of the Great Basin, including the Lakeside Gardens and Evening Island.
